Section 6 — Responsibilities of Guardians and Household Members
This Section outlines the duties and expectations placed upon all individuals residing within the household to ensure the welfare, safety, and emotional wellbeing of the domestic cat. These responsibilities form the practical framework through which the rights established in previous Sections are upheld.
Every household member shares a collective obligation to maintain an environment that supports the cat’s physical health, behavioural needs, and personal autonomy. The provisions below define the standards of conduct required to meet these obligations.
6.1 General Responsibilities
- All household members must treat the cat with respect, patience, and consideration. Behaviour that causes fear, stress, or discomfort is prohibited.
- Household members must ensure that the cat’s basic needs — including food, water, safety, and access to resting areas — are consistently met.
- Individuals must avoid actions that interfere with the cat’s natural behaviours, personal space, or emotional security.
6.2 Responsibilities of the Guardian of Compliance
- A designated Guardian of Compliance shall oversee the implementation of this Act within the household. This individual is responsible for monitoring the cat’s wellbeing and ensuring that all provisions of the Act are followed.
- The Guardian of Compliance shall communicate concerns, provide guidance, and encourage responsible behaviour among household members. This role does not grant punitive authority but emphasises education and cooperation.
- The Guardian must act in the best interests of the cat at all times, particularly in situations involving safety, stress, or potential harm.
6.3 Cooperation Among Household Members
- All individuals residing in the household must cooperate with the Guardian of Compliance and adhere to the standards set forth in this Act.
- Disagreements regarding the cat’s care must be resolved respectfully, with the cat’s welfare taking priority over personal preference.
- Household members must remain attentive to the cat’s behaviour and communicate any concerns regarding health, stress, or changes in routine.
Section 6 ensures that the rights granted to the household cat are upheld through shared responsibility, cooperation, and consistent care. By defining these expectations, the Act establishes a stable and supportive environment in which the cat’s wellbeing is prioritised by all members of the household.
